Bear(y) Interesting Bear Story

This is not the bear that was caught; this picture was taken by our friend Bill, who is a resident at the campground. This bear was about 150 ft. from our RVs. But I have to tell you a funny story. The pictures taken of the cage is when they suspected another bear was in the area, because they continued to find trash cans toppled. I acquired a new nickname…(Bear Bait). CeCe and I (Crystal) thought we were going to actually catch a bear or at least watch this bear as it is caught, by going into the cage. So we planned on camping out in front of the cage. (Uh…..in a vehicle). So about 10:30pm we settled in CeCe’s van and commence to wait for the bear. Well can you guess what happened next? I can’t say any names, (but their first name begins with a (C)) but one of us fell asleep, and it has been said that the one of us that had fallen asleep was so noisy in the sleeps that we HAD to scare the bear away, so we never saw the bear. We were back at our campers about 12:30 am. The bear trap was there for a whole week and NO BEAR was caught.
This a shot of the cage length wise and close up. See the back end, which will come down once the bag is roughed up. There is Doug and Chelsie, she’s really camera shy.

This is a closer look at the inside of the cage. There are three pieces of toast with peanut butter….this is to lure it in and then there is a white plastic bag in the upper left hand corner….one the bear has eaten all the toast, it will go for the bag. The bag has a cord on it and it is very difficult to get the bag opened, so once it gets rough with the bag (which has more food, sardines, fishy stuff) and pulls the bag, the back will flip down and the bear was caught.

This is very interesting, this is a bear trapping cage. Uh Yea! Two days before we arrive at Dear Path Lodge, the owners told us there was a bear on the loose and they had to catch it, so they had a cage like placed on the grounds with bate inside. The camp RV area is straight ahead, so it was far enough away where we would get gobbled up. Posted by Picasa
